Looking for a job?  Check out the job fair.
Where can you go for potentially 40 informational interviews in one afternoon? DePaul Career Center’s “Technology Job and Internship Fair,” Feb. 23 at the Congress Plaza Hotel.

Designed for alumni and students alike, the fair will provide opportunities for individuals with varying work experience—from currently enrolled students to candidates with years in the field.

“This fair offers students and alumni the unique opportunity to connect with hiring employers, as well as to research employment options and companies,” says Patrick J. Powers, the Career Center’s job fair coordinator.

“There will be one-on-one, face-to-face contact with recruiters, and there is the potential to learn much more about a company or a position than one can ever learn from a job posting.”

Powers also encourages attendance by people who are not necessarily looking for a new job. “Even if you haven’t begun your job search, it is a fascinating experience to see all of the recruiters and to gain practice talking with them.”

Participating employers usually seek alumni and students for full-time, entry-level positions and internships, he says.

Companies must pay a fee to participate, and in return, they will receive access to an electronic resumé database. “We request a copy of each candidate’s resumé. This resumé goes into an electronic, searchable database, which is not available to any third-party staffing agencies or companies that do not participate in the fair.”

Corporate participants will include United Airlines, Walgreens, Panduit Corp., Quaker Oats Company, Pepsi Cola General Bottlers, the Chicago Transit Authority, Household International and coolsavings.com.

Job seekers and employers will find information and registration forms on the Career Center Web site: http://careercenter.depaul.edu. To answer additional questions, call the Career Center at (312) 362-8437.

The job fair runs from noon until 4 p.m. It is open to the public. For alumni and students who pre-register by Feb. 16, the job fair is free. There is a $10 fee for the general public and those who have not pre-registered.

The Congress Plaza Hotel is located at 520 S. Michigan Ave.
