Course PromotionThis course will examine current film industry issues and conversion of cinemas to digital formats. There will also be a strong emphasis in weekly box office analysis and prediction of a film's performance in the market place based on historical data. The students will also have a thorough understanding of national theatre chains and major film studios and their often complex relationship. Discussions will include independent studios and films in the golden era of early 90's and the situation in today's economy. A final project will include a marketing and distribution plan of a fictional independent film covering issues discussed during the quarter. Topics such as theatrical markets, film festivals, ad creative look, publicity, marketing partners, regional interests, 3-D, critical reviews, academy awards, talent, and historical data are just some of the areas covered on the final project.
