CTI houses several specialized labs to assist students in exploring
different hardware and software in their courses. In addition there are labs
all enrolled students can use located in the CTI building as well see the
links on the left for information.
DePaul
university lab information can be found here.Mobile E-commerce Lab
The Mobile E-commerce Lab provides support for research and
development in
the area of Mobile E-commerce. Students are encouraged to join a team of
faculty members and graduate students to work on such research problems
as:
design and development of systems that communicate with wireless
web-enabled devices, interface design for hand-held computers and web
phones, E-commerce applications for mobile devices.

Solid Objects Lab
The Solid Objects Lab specializes in the modeling and manufacture of
real objects using CNC (computer numerical control) technology and
systems for digitizing 3D objects into modeled spaces. The CNC
facilities include a three-dimensional router for cutting plastics, wax
and wood as well as a flatbed cutter for pattern cutting. Digitizing
facilities feature MicroScribe, an industry standard digitizing arm, a
piezo scanner and photogrammetric modelling.
Software Research Lab
The software research lab, which has been in existence for a few
years, allows students to test experimental programs without
jeopardizing the rest of the system. Currently, the lab has six PCs for
installation and development of software. Associate Professor Xiaoping
Jia's goal is to add more PCs. For more information, email

Multimedia Networking
The mission of the Multimedia Networking Research Laboratory (MNLAB)
is providing high-quality research and development contributions to the
area of multimedia networking. The MNLAB provides hands-on experience
for CTI students in the advanced networking courses. Assistant Professor
Ehab Al-Shaer is the director of the lab. The multimedia lab houses 20
Multimedia Workstations, which contain 14 Sun Ultra 10 workstations
running Solaris 7 and four PC Window NT platform machines. The MNLAB
workstations are connected with 100 Mbps switch which connects to the
MBONE. The lab is supported in part by CTI, Sun Micro Systems and IONA
Technologies. For more information, write to
multilab@cs.depaul.edu
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research
The AI research lab will be home to a number of active research
projects, including studies in information retrieval, natural language
processing, data mining and intelligent agents. This lab will support
faculty members and graduate students and will provide office space for
Ph.D. students. For more information, write
ailab@cs.depaul.edu
American Sign Language (ASL)
The ASL project team is using this facility in its effort to design
software that will translate the spoken word into sign language. The ASL
lab holds four PCs and a video card. Recently, the team used the lab to
allow members of the deaf community to test software that demonstrates
finger-spelling. For more information,
visit the project Web site or

E-commerce Technology (ECT) and Information Systems (IS)
The ECT and IS lab will be used by the e-commerce research group and
the ASL project team. Faculty members with expertise in IS, ECT and HCI
will have an opportunity to test commercial software and servers in this
laboratory. It will contain 17 workstations, UNIX and NT servers, a
video camera, a digital camera and a 3-D digitizer. For more
information, email
